Regardless of the type of party that you are throwing, you may want to include
some amusing party games to guarantee that your guests get maximum enjoyment
out of the event. Party games don't just consist of a group of young children
trying to pin a tail on a donkey with blindfolds on. On the contrary, there
are plenty of party games for children and for adults as well. Below is a
survey of some updated party games that will get your guests excited and having
fun.

Party games can be helpful icebreakers that will enable your guests to get to
know each other better and form instant connections at the same time. One such
game that works great at a party for adults is to pass out little colored note
cards to each guest as they enter. On each note card, write a phrase, a line
of a poem, or a subject for discussion and make sure that a second note card
has a corresponding subject.

As your guests roam the room searching for the other guests whose card matches
their own, they will use the information on the note cards to talk to each
other. This way, everyone will be introduced to each other and have
predetermined subjects to discuss. This icebreaker game actually has many
forms. You can simplify it, or complicate it if need be, whatever works best
for you and your guests.

Children's party games have come a long way too. Anyone who has been the host
of a party for kids knows that you have to keep those kids busy or you could
have a mutiny on your hands. Piniatas are made now for every occasion and kids
never get tired of having your permission to destroy something. But if you
aren't up for the potential mess, here are a few easy and practical games for
kids.

Kids love competitive games that are also fun. Blow up enough balloons for each
child to have his or her own. Have them stand in a wide line several feet
apart and throw the balloon up into the air above their heads. The contest is
to see which one can keep the balloon in the air the longest, using only their
head, or for younger kids, their hands. It's cheap and simple, and kids love
it.

A second game that kids and parents can appreciate is akin to the old standard
musical chairs but with a modern twist. All you need is space to move and
music. Have the kids start dancing when the music begins. When the music
stops, they must freeze in whatever position that they are in. Kids will get a
kick out of the funny positions they end up in. Whoever doesn't freeze
completely is "out".

You don't have to stick to the old classics when it comes to choosing party
games to entertain your guests. Get creative, depending on how far you want to
go, almost anything is possible. The games discussed above require almost no
materials, are easy to learn, and will most certainly make your party memorable.
