It is time to go green with personal technology and green computers are finally here to get you started. It is actually easy to go green with your computer and it can save not only the environment but money as well. The first thing you should know is that buying a green computer is not that much more expensive than a non-green one. However, with the energy efficiency you will more than make up the extra dough you spend on a green one. If you do some poking around the Internet you'll find out who sells the greenest computers. That is one of the best tips for finding green computers that you can get. You need to research. Research like crazy. In this ever-changing computer environment greener computers are coming out every day. Here's a good tip, buy a laptop and not a desktop. Laptops are much more efficient with power use. Also get an energy efficient display on your laptop because there are great displays that lose nothing because they are greener. With a laptop you will get the same performance as a desktop and a great viewing experience with the screen. But, you will be using far less resources. When buying green computers try as hard as possible to resist buying anything with harmful substances like mercury or flame retardant chemicals. These can get into the environment when you discard the computer. While we are talking about that we should also mention not to buy anything that comes packed in excessive packaging. Apple is good at packing their computers minimally. Also, make sure the packaging is from recycled materials as well. Another tip is to be sure when you toss your old non-green computer, to do it through a certified recycling program. One thing to do to stay green even with new green computers is to always leave your computer in low power mode when not in use. You would be amazed how much energy you can save by doing this. Most laptops and desktops alike have an energy saving mode. Also, shut your computer off when you go to bed and if you use a power strip shut that off too. It is amazing how much electricity can be saved by just doing these little, easy to remember things. Going green is easy to do and it is socially responsible as well as economical and it just feels like the right thing. Jason Oh has an interest in computers and technology.
