Are you getting married this year or sometime soon? You may have been wondering
about how to make your wedding as green as possible.

This article is intended to help you think of some ways to make your wedding
planning beneficial to you and the environment. Get creative and see what you
can come up with on your own as well. The tips below are intended to get you
started.

First of all, going green for your wedding is becoming more popular. You don't
have to feel weird about it. Lots of couples are considering the environment
when doing their wedding planning. Think about how you can get your family and
your wedding party excited about a green wedding.

Planning an eco friendly wedding includes everything from the ceremony to the
food to where the wedding is located. That means considering your invitations,
your party favors, your diamond engagement ring, your guest list, the food,
what to wear and the time of year to have your wedding.

Professional wedding planners know all about planning eco friendly weddings as
they are naturally getting more and more requests from brides and grooms to be
more environmentally friendly with all aspects of the wedding.

If you are going with a wedding planner, find one who has experience with
planning a green wedding. Ask him or her what other couples have done.

Here are some examples of things you could include in your wedding to make it
more eco friendly:

1. Make sure you have recycling stations at your reception. People should have
a place to recycle beer bottles, soda bottles and other food materials. Recycle
as much as you can throughout the wedding process such as cardboard boxes,
paper and other materials.

2. Donate leftover food to food banks rather than throwing it away.

3. Don't use any traditional party favors or decorations. They look tacky
anyway.

4. Wear a borrowed, used or otherwise gently worn wedding dress. You're only
going to wear this dress once, so why spend more than $1,000 on it anyway?

By borrowing a dress or buying a used dress you are not only saving the
environment, but you are saving your budget, too. If you want to save on your
budget a bit more, you could even find a used engagement ring.

5. Buy locally grown or organic flowers. You can also use recycled glass vases
or jars. There are dozens of these at any thrift store. Or, just ask your
friends or family members (like Grandma) what they have sitting around in their
cupboards.

6. Keep the guest list small. This will cut down on the amount of traveling
people will have to do to get to your wedding. It will reduce the amount of
waste at the reception as well.

7. Donate all your unwanted wedding gifts to a thrift store rather than
throwing them away.

8. Do everything that you can electronically, including the invitations and
RSVPs.

9. Rather than register at businesses for your wedding gifts, why not suggest
to your guests that they can donate electronically to pay for your honeymoon or
something else you and your future spouse are saving for such as a house?

10. Hold the wedding and the reception at a hotel. If you do this, the guests
can all stay at one place for the event and cut back on traveling.

What are some other ideas for an environmentally friendly wedding?
