The MP3 player is the best way to store and listen to music for most people. It
makes more sense to store large quantities of songs on a single device rather
than to own cases and case of CDs or to lug around a laptop computer.

Another great thing about an MP3 player is the fact that most of them will not
skip when you are using them for exercising or other activities such as
running, biking or cleaning the house.

You can spend pretty much whatever you want on an MP3 player. The good thing is
you can spend anywhere from $40 on up and select from a variety of used MP3
players.

For a new device, you can spend anywhere from $60 for the cheapest models all
the way up to $500 or more for the newest, most complex versions. Just a few
brands include new or used Samsung MP3 players, iPods and Panasonics.

Of course, the more money you spend, the more storage space you will get for
your songs. If you don't mind uploading 50 or so songs every time you want new
music, then a cheaper version will probably work fine for you.

On the other hand, if you expect to keep 3,000 or more songs on hand all the
time, you are going to have to spend more to get more storage. A player with
128MB will get you about two hours of tunes. Use that number to compare various
machines.

When you are looking at MP3 players, keep in mind that not all machines are
going to be compatible with Macs. If you don't use a Mac, then you will be OK
with most players.

But no matter what machine you are interested in, make sure it will be
compatible with whatever computer you use. Sometimes stores don't let you
return electronics.

Don't pick one that is too small for you to read or too difficult to use. Sure,
it's great if the MP3 player can fit in your back pocket or in your purse, but
if you can't see the buttons on the machine or if you think you'll lose it,
then it's not worth it to go small.

Another thing to know is that the smaller the player is, the more it's going to
cost. Don't hesitate to go with a medium sized machine for a little less money.
It's better to get a used machine that is not quite as small as the newer
models. You can always trade it in next year.

Don't forget to check out how long the battery will last. It's no fun if you're
out for a run and your machine can't last as long as you! No more music might
cause you to stop your workouts sooner.

Other features to look at are whether or not the player can play radio and
whether or not is has the capabilities to record audio or video. You may or may
not care about these functions, but the options exist.
