------------------ ARTICLE START ------------------

There is a lot of good advice in the world of Internet marketing but most of it
has to do with the technology of online business and not the underlying
principles. Even though the "clothes" are new when it comes to making money
online, the basic ideas are the same that have been used throughout the decades
to develop a profitable business that helps people.

One of my favorite quotes regarding business, and life in general, is something
I feel applies very well to online business.

"There is nothing so powerful as truth, and often nothing so strange." Daniel
Webster

Webster lived centuries before the Internet was even conceived of, but his
observation still rings true today. If you want to succeed with your online
business, you need to do what others aren't doing...you need to tell the truth.

If there is one profession in the world that is infamous for lack of truth, it
is sales and marketing. It seems that some people mistakenly believe that in
order to sell their product or service, they have to lie abut it. It is one
thing to emphasize the benefits that you are offering and it is quite another
to completely make up facts.

Since the Internet is, for the most part, a self-regulated community it leaves
the opportunity open for unscrupulous marketers to lie about what they are
offering. They may lie on their blogs about their earnings. They may create
products that don't deliver what they promise. They may lead people down the
wrong path because they are making a commission on the sale.
All of these factors give online marketing a bad name and, worst of all, it
isn't getting these marketers what they want. As Webster states, the only true
power comes from truthfulness. Income and freedom, the two things that people
want most from their online business, are only sustainable when you are
truthful in your advertising.

Being truthful can run the gamut from transparently letting your list know what
your real online income is to writing a sales letter from the heart. It means
that you'll find the right way to do things and not just the quick way to do
things. It means that you'll think of your customers and not just the bottom
line.

Two things happen when you begin to be truthful in your business. First, you'll
begin taking pride in your actions. Can you imagine the kind of psychological
torture that lying marketers out there must go through behind the scenes? Even
if they are pulling in a few grand a month, they know that they aren't offering
quality. It must be very difficult to look yourself in the eye and know that
you haven't done your best. When you tell the truth, you don't have to go
through that.

Secondly, you'll begin to see results. When you set yourself apart from the
pack, people will begin to take notice. They will understand what you have to
offer and they will see the difference in your marketing compared to some of
your unscrupulous competitors. Some will still go for the flashy untruthful
marketing out there, but many of them will become fed up and start looking for
someone who is honest...someone just like you!
