Perhaps the most expensive accessory you'll ever buy are your golf clubs. But even after shelling out a lot of cash for them, most golfers don't care for their clubs properly. This is not their fault, in general no one ever tells you how. Since you have invested time, money, and a lot of thought in purchasing your golf clubs, you should consider spending some reasonable effort in maintaining, storing, and using them properly. First, consider the golf bag itself. Before you buy one, ensure that the sides are toughened with some sort of metal, like steel. This helps protect your clubs in case the golf bag falls out of the cart, hits other objects, or befalls some other mishap. To prevent theft of your clubs, see if you can buy a golf bag with a flap or a door on the top. The flap should come with a lock mechanism, for example, a number protected lock or even a simple lock-and-key will suffice. If the golf bag does not come with a lock be sure to get a good lock. Don't make the lock so small that you have a hard time seeing the numbers if it is a combination lock or have a hard time getting a key in the lock if it is a keyed lock. Consider painting, embroidering, or embossing your name on the sides of your golf bag. Some people even take it a step further and imprint their contact details with their names. Keep in mind that if you just use a luggage type tag that it can be cut off. You want something that will be permanent so if you lose your bag and someone finds it you have a fighting chance of getting it back. See if you can get a professional to emboss your name and contact details on the handles of your clubs. You can also go to Sears and get a hand engraver and put your name and telephone number on them yourselves. This won't prevent theft, but at least you know you have a better chance at finding lost clubs again. If you are faced with being a constant traveler as well as a golf aficionado then you can get reinforced traveling golf bags for a slightly higher price tag. But since this is a one-time investment, go ahead and splurge a bit. The metal covered bags will keep your clubs safe while traveling. Be sure to put your identification on this also. You know how the airlines and porters handle your luggage! Protect the heads of the clubs with covers. If your clubs are not protected you take the chance of chipping and cracking. These come in many different materials; Leather, Knit, Neoprene, and Softex to name a few. Some will have natural or synthetic sheepskin lining. Here you can use your creativity because you can get everything from Betty Boop covers to your favorite NFL or College Team Logos. Don't forget all the animals and funny characters that are available also. You can also go on the net and find patterns to make your own. You have put your hard earned money into picking the right golf clubs, take good care of them and have a good time playing for a long time.
