Parenting is a happy, but difficult experience. You have to attend to all the
needs of the family, especially the needs of your child. You make sure he is
fed with nutritious food and that his mind and body are developed. You want to
make sure that you are nurturing a positive attitude in him and that you are
sending him to the best school. More importantly, you wish to know his having
fun with his childhood. But these are not all.

Putting your child to sleep is one of your 'nightmares' as parent. After
keeping yourself busy all day long feeding him and playing with him, sleeping
time is what you look forward to because this is also your resting time. You
wish he will go to bed and sleep with the least amount of resistance but no, he
is still the same. You have turned off all the lights, have given him milk, and
have kept all his toys, but, to no avail.

To help yourself, you should develop secrets to get your child to sleep - and
on time. Here's how:

Read him a bedtime story every night.
Make sure that the story that you read will stimulate his mind to sleep. Also,
make your schedule of your bedtime storytelling regular. In this way, his mind
will be used to this process: after a bedtime story, it is sleeping time! You
see, mind conditioning is the key here.

Make his room dimly lit at night.
After painting your child's room with bright colors, now comes your problem:
sleeping time. Bright colors do not stimulate a good sleep. In fact, it
exhibits action. Here is the solution: make his room dimly lit at night; thus,
reflecting a very calming ambiance.

Promise a reward.
No, this is not bribery. Tell yourself you are just developing a good sleeping
habit to your child. Therefore, inform him that if he follows his sleeping time
regularly, he gets a reward every month or once a year. A reward can be a toy
or a treat to his favorite restaurant. Really, rewards work for kids; but,
remember, this is only for a certain time.

Give him a buddy to sleep with him.
Give him a sleeping buddy, like a teddy bear. In this way, he will feel
comfortable sleeping, knowing he has someone to sleep with.

Make sure that he is not active for one hour prior to sleeping time.
Stop all his active plays. Turn off the television or the computer. Ask him to
sit down and take a rest. Ensure that he is doing nothing for one hour prior to
sleeping time. In this way, his mind will be relaxed; thus, understanding that
it is already time to sleep.

The following are effective ways to enable your child to develop a good
sleeping habit. Following one or more of these secrets will surely get your
child to sleep; therefore, sparing you of the trouble.
