As parents, we worry too much about our children's future. We want to make sure
that we equip them with ways that can help them obtain a better opportunity in
life. We develop their attitude, character, and leadership, and we send them to
school. Oftentimes, we forget to think about establishing their financial
future, which should start by teaching them how to save. This should not be the
case. As parents, we must realize that through saving, we teach our children
how to develop a positive attitude toward money. Now, how do we do it? Here are
the five effective ways (remember, this should start soon as he learns how to
count):

Be a good role model
As parent, you should set a good example to your child by showing him how you
manage your own money. Show him your money box. Explain to him what you do with
the money box and why are you doing it. Being small, he will not easily realize
what you are trying to explain to him, but he will surely try to imitate. That
is what is important for now.

Buy him a coin bank
To enable him to fully realize your actions, buy him his own coin bank. At the
beginning, he will just try to be like you; but as days go by, he will go on
his own, asking you for money to put in his coin bank.

Give him two money boxes
If you are not keen on buying him a coin bank because you want to teach him
something unique, you try to place two boxes in his room. Label one bank with
"spend" and the other with "save". Show him how you will divide the money that
he received either from you or from other people. He will remember this
process, which he will maintain as he grows up.

Open a bank account in his name
Bring your child along with you in the bank. Tell him that you are opening a
bank account in his name and why. Afterwards, make a regular visit to this bank
to deposit. Teach him how to do it. He will grow up doing the same thing.

Reward him for every dollar that he saves.
Make saving enjoyable for your child. Tell him that for every dollar he saves,
you will match it with another dollar. For this reason, he will build an
interest in saving. You need not worry about this kind of reward. He is only a
child; thus, he will not have more money than you do. You can easily match his
savings.

Teaching your child these five effective ways to save money is not about
earning money. It is about developing a positive attitude toward money. More
importantly, any way you choose from this list will surely build a character
that will help him secure his financial future. And, this is more rewarding for
you as a parent.
