There is a lot of excitement in the newly developing green building and green home industry. Everyday people are becoming more conscious about the impact they and their home have on the environment. What is green building? And what exactly is a green home? Green building reduces carbon dioxide emissions, conserves natural resources, improves air and water quality, cuts back waste and saves energy. Building green also stimulates architectural design and green construction that promotes sustainable, healthy living. Can you imagine a country where everything was built to be this eco-friendly? If all buildings in the U.S. met LEED green building standards, national energy use and global warming emissions would drop by at least ten percent. The potential for reducing waste is even greater. The rate of construction waste recycling is 70 percent, on average 8,000 lbs of waste are thrown into the landfill during the construction of a 2,000 square foot home. Building with bamboo helps to create green homes that provide a healthier and more efficient way of living for all people. Incorporating green design, LEED certification and green construction to significantly lessen any negative impact on the environment and to improve the health of those who live inside. Green homes are built to be healthier, more eco-friendly, more durable, more sustainable and more cost-effective. The LEED green building certification program stands for leadership in energy and environmental design. LEED green homes save energy and the environment by using green building materials and renewable resources, such as bamboo. LEED certified green home builders promote reducing environmental disturbance and construction waste. The indoor air quality (IAQ) of a home has a major impact on the long-term health of its residents. All of the products used for treatments and finishes meet the highest IAQ standards. The interior finishes applied in green homes are all low in VOC (volatile organic compounds). Also, the fungicide additives used in the finishes are the safest on the market. Green homes also use toxin-free building materials to provide natural ventilation and to help combat indoor air pollution, which can be much worse than outdoor pollution. Prefabricated or prefab homes are manufactured away from the building site, usually in standard sections that are fast and easy to ship and assemble. Combine that availability with all of the splendors of a green home and you have got the worlds first and only certified bamboo green prefab (GreenFab) dwelling. These days, architects are constructing more with prefabrication in order to deliver well-designed and mass-producible homes. Prefab homes feature modern design and open floor plans, rather than a particular method of construction. Prefabricated homes are also becoming very popular because they require much less labor than conventional houses or homes. Deciding on your home is one of the biggest decisions of your life. Choosing a prefab green home over a conventional home makes a significant difference in the global paradigm shift to sustainability. It requires out of the box thinking, a passion to live in your values, a boldness to support the newly developing green industry and a desire to restore balance on Earth. In Japan, bamboo structures have a history of lasting 200 years. With maintenance being comparable to a conventional structure its hard to deny that a bamboo green home is the better solution. Some LEED architects have the capability to design, build and deliver your green home in as quickly as three months. Typically, however, your eco house will arrive about six months after you place your order. Mortgage companies are available to finance green homes and all green home owners can qualify for homeowners and fire insurance coverage. Why not choose a green home? Green Homes are beautiful, healthy, strong, safe, cost effective and environmentally friendly. Welcome to the future of modern green home design. It certainly looks bright for all of us, especially Mother Earth. David Sands is a renowned green building architect and bamboo advocate.
