If you are having problems with making money online and can't seem to get started, you might need to take some advice from Ben Franklin. Although he died long before anyone even dreamed of making money online, his advice on the nature of success still applies today. One of my favorite pieces of advice is: "To succeed, jump as quickly at opportunities as you do at conclusions." At first glance you may think that by applying his advice you'd be jumping from business opportunity to business opportunity and basically be spinning your wheels. On the contrary, jumping on opportunities is a sound strategy for success as long as you are jumping on the right opportunities. Without jumping on opportunities, you'll be stuck in a rut forever. Taking a leap and doing something is the only way to success because it is the only way you'll change from your current situation to a brand new one. Without these jumps, you'll really be spinning your wheels and getting nothing done. There are a few contingencies that you need to add to Franklin's advice. After all, he didn't work in an industry where there were dozens of new opportunities being sent into your inbox each day. You have to be selective about your opportunities. You need to filter them through the lens of what is important to your current business model. Before you can be ready to jump on an opportunity, you have to be prepared. You have to have your business system in place so you know exactly what you need and what you don't need when it comes to making your business work. In fact, make a list of the resources that you need to reach the next level of your business. If a new tool, program or service comes your way that fits in line with your goals for your business...go for it if it makes sense for your position and skill level. You also need to have the resources to take advantage of an opportunity. Make sure you have a budget for materials, tools and programs each month. Don't go broke trying to buy the next big thing when you already have all of the tools you need. If it's time and not money that needs to be put into this opportunity, make sure that you have budgeted the time that you need by using good time management strategies. Finally, you need to bust through any negative self talk that may be holding you back from taking advantage of opportunities that will help you succeed. If you spend all day long telling yourself that your plan will never work, you'll never be able to see the opportunity as it arises in front of you. Stay positive about your business so you can build it on a solid foundation. With these contingencies, you can be sure that you are jumping to the right opportunities that fit your goals. You can break out of your current level of success and grow your business by leaps and bounds. Dan Higby is the author of eBiz Snap a free newsletter for online marketers of all experience levels.
