There are diverse ways of holding a pencil for drawing. There is not a single
ultimate way, but several alternatives, depending on what you are trying to
accomplish.

The Different Ways To Hold A Pencil For Drawing

* Grip your pencil like a writing tool, close to the tip, when drawing
outlines or adding fine points to your drawing. This allows utmost control
over the pencil.

* For drawing long, steady or flowing lines, grab the pencil near the middle
with the end steadily in your palm. This allows stable positioning and control
to produce long, even lines.

* Shading larger areas is maximized by holding the pencil in the middle,
slanted by the side so it is roughly parallel to the paper. This lets you to
utilize the side of the graphite to make even strokes.

* For areas requiring darker shading, hold the pencil near the tip ( the pencil
is underneath your hand) and push the side of the head to the paper. This
results tones of deeper, darker colors for tiny areas of dark shading.

The Correct Amount of Pressure for Drawing with Pencils

The quantity of pressure needed when drawing with pencils is different
depending on the end effect you want and how hard the pencil is. For putting
down the basic sketch, use a hard pencil with mild pressure.

Softer pencils give darker lines, so depending on how dark you would like the
area to be; you will have to adjust pressure. As for example, a 9B pencil with
a hefty hand will draw a very dark line and with a lighter hand it will even
now be dark but less than before.

There is no common rule for the magnitude of pressure to give. Try with
different pencils and pressures to achieve the effects you want.

Just one thing you should keep in mind: for drawing darker lines forever
prefer using a softer pencil over putting more pressure. The reason: too much
pressure may damage the paper.

Become Skilled to draw with Swift and Smooth Pencil Movements

The most important element of great drawings is the skill to draw with swift
and smooth movements.

This requires practice and confidence. To practice drawing smoothly and
confidently, initiate your basic sketches by a hard pencil . Use a gentle
hand for this is a straightforward outline of your drawing.

These lines may not even be observed in your final piece. Do not be too much
worried with every stroke; let your gut feeling help you. As you benefit from
gathering more experience, you will become more confident of your skills and
techniques. This confidence will inspire the swift smooth strokes of your
tools.

Keep a sketchbook with you and when something motivates you, use it! These
will help you most to be trained in pencil drawing.
