Here is a follow up to my earlier article discussing frugal and cost cutting ways to have a wonderful Valentine's Day. I want to post some additional ideas below: 1. Make a "Heart-shaped" food item. This doesn't have to be anything too complex (no, you don't have to bake a seven layer cake in the shape of a heart!). You can simply make pancakes in the shape of a heart. Or, you can cut the morning toast into a "heart-shape". Getting a pizza (hopefully with some free coupon codes?) for dinner? You can ask the pizza maker to cut it into a heart. For you very basic folks, you can even take "Peanut Butter and Jelly" sandwiches and cut them into hearts. 2. Do you live near a book store, such as Barnes & Noble or Borders? One of the things I love about these bookstores is that you can go in and read to your heart's content. Why not go in with your "honey" and read Love Poems to each other? Go spend an hour reading from some of the finest poets for free. 3. Make a card and list the many ways you love the other person. This can be done with a simple sheet of paper or you can self-decorate in a more detailed manner. The key here is list the many ways that you love your partner. Start this project well in advance. You will find yourself coming up with all sorts of ideas that you didn't think of at first. So, don't leave this one to the last minute. The goal can be 10 or 100 reasons you love the other person. Feel free to be funny and sweet (though I would recommend getting some "sweetness" in there). 4. Create a "scroll" of lovely quotes and thoughts. This can be a combination of poetic thoughts (and, sure you can have actual poems) and personal remembrances. You can make it what you want it. What you might want to do is buy a couple of really nice sheets of paper. You can go to a nice stationary store and buy a couple of sheets (they may even give you a couple to try for free). Also, at this time of year there are many sales on office products and you can use those coupon codes, discounts and promotional codes to find some nice paper for very low cost. 5. How about the simple act of saying "I Love You". You can also write this down on little slips of paper and put it around the house. But, nothing goes as far as the recurring gift of saying and meaning how you feel about your partner. Make a commitment to saying "I Love You" every day. It will not only be a nice gift on Valentine's Day. But, it will be rewarding for you and your partner all year long.
