New babies have few defenses against germs, so practicing good hygiene during
preparation and storage of formulas is essential to prevent infections. It is
highly important to prioritize your newborn's health. Infants are still in the
process of developing their respective immune system which makes them
vulnerable to any bacteria or viruses out there that may cause sickness.

Mothers should know how to guard their new born babies first hand. And what
better way to implement such protection than knowing some of the important tips
in practicing and maintaining good hygiene during preparation and storage of
formulas in preventing infection to occur on your newborns. Here are the
following tips:

1. Sterilize bottles and teats in a bottle sterilizer or in a port of boiling
water for five minutes. This should be done several times everyday depending on
how many bottles and teats you have. It is highly essential to keep these
materials cleans and germ-free at all times to prevent your newborn from being
sick.

2. Wash your hands and utensils before preparing the formula. Don't use your
fingers to cover the teat while shaking the bottle as this may contaminate the
feed. It is always important to keep ourselves clean when preparing for your
baby's food. Keep in mind that your baby's health is at stake when you prepare
food for him.

3. Use only boiled tap water to prepare the formula. Not all bottled waters are
sterile. Be sure that the mixed formula has cooled to room temperature before
feeding.

4. Follow the instruction and measure ingredients carefully when preparing the
formula.

5. Refrigerate bottles that are not immediately used. Discard unused formula
within 24 hours. Formulas that have not been used for more than 24 hours are
more likely to develop microbes within.

6. Bring refrigerated formula to room temperature before feeding by placing the
bottle in a container of hot water for a few minutes.

7. Discard leftover formula after the baby has finished eating. Keeping extra
formulas that wasn't consumed by your baby is not a good idea.

Keep in mind that the first line of defense in protecting your newborn from
various infections is by maintaining a good hygiene in preparing and keeping
formulas in a clean germ-free place. You should always, and I mean at all
times, keep every bottle and teat clean to make sure that your newborn is free
from getting infected by any bacteria.
