One of the most important factors behind maintaining a strong immune system,
and therefore good health, is getting the proper rest and relaxation your body
needs. All you have to do is think back on past experiences to know this is
true. When you get chance to take a break from work and the everyday stresses
of life, doesn't it make you feel good? It allows you to feel like a human
being rather than a human doing. Wouldn't it be great if you could feel like
that all the time instead of just on the few breaks you get? Well with a few
small changes in your life it is possible.

The first thing you need to do to decrease stress and improve relaxation is to
declutter your life. I don't just mean cleaning your house either (although
that is a start). Over the course of a person's life they tend to pick up
habits, hobbies and even friends that they don't like or enjoy. Think about
this for a moment and how it relates to you. Perhaps you have a friend you meet
up with once a week yet all it serves to do is cause you stress or you attend a
class that is bringing you joy. While it may seem ruthless to reduce stress and
improve your health it is vital to drop as many of these kind of things as
possible. Not only does it get rid of things that cause you stress and anxiety
but it also frees up more time you can spend on yourself or something you find
enjoyable.

Natural light from the sun is a known mood elevator. When you are in a good
mood you tend to feel happier and more relaxed. This means that you should try
to spend at least thirty minutes outdoors everyday. You can do this quite
easily by taking a walk around the area you live or taking your lunch break
outside if the weather is nice. Fully opening your curtains or blinds during
the day and opening a window will also help.

Taking regular exercise is one of the best things you can do to aid relaxation.
Not only will it improve your fitness and help you to maintain a healthy weight
it also reduces levels of Cortisol which is a stress hormone. Exercise doesn't
necessarily have to be vigorous, walking at a steady pace for thirty minutes is
enough for your daily dose. If you work at a computer all day eye exercises can
help you reduce the strain that this causes.

There are also a number of relaxation techniques you can learn and use that
will help you feel calm and balanced. Two of the best examples of this are
meditation and self hypnosis. Both are similar but there the big difference is
that meditation typically aims to empty the mind will self hypnosis will empty
the conscious mind and then enter hypnotic suggestions into the subconscious.
Neither meditation or self hypnosis are hard to learn, in fact you can find
many MP3s that will guide you through the process on the internet.

If you take the time to make the above changes to your life not only will you
feel more relaxed but your health in general will also benefit.
