Qigong is an ancient Chinese practice, quite related to Taoism and Tai Chi.
However, in its own right, it is already a very ancient practice, passed from
one generation of masters to the next. Its exact origins are unknown. What is
known though is that it is quite shrouded in mysterious rituals, and it is kept
a secret for Chinese elite and their initiates only.

However, since the modern era, the Qigong exercises became quite known to the
rest of the world. Qigong is derived from the Chinese word Qi-a concept meaning
energy and power. It is quite a way to make oneself more "powered" in a certain
sense. Its practice consists of certain movements, light movements together
with breathing exercises. There are many benefits quite testified by many who
experienced change due to Qigong practice.

These are healing for many kinds of specific ailments, reduction or elimination
of pain, promotion of a sense of well being, purifying the whole body,
including internal organs, bones, circulation, skin and the muscles,
strengthening the nervous and the immune systems, and of course stress
managements. There are other advantages, but these are the better known and
major ones.

The Qi exercises are based upon an ideology of nature. The Qi gong practice
claims to draw energy from various natural sources, the earth, the sun, the
ocean, the sky and of course the whole universe or cosmos. This sense of cosmic
connection is a vital part of the whole Qi gong philosophy. Qi gong is also
relevant to the practice of meditation.

Meditation involves a certain type of focus in a peaceful environment. A Qi
gong meditation can be assisted by meditative sounds. The qi power is said to
be enhanced through the qi movements and meditation. Certain principles of qi
gong can be quite hard to understand in their original form. However, there is
much improvement nowadays. There are many programs that have new improvised
versions of qi gong. These qi gong movements are simplified, and therefore, the
principles can be quite easier to understand even for people who are not well
versed in spiritual traditions. So have a check on these programs. Try one that
seems to best fit your needs.

The Qi gong practice can also be integrated with other practices of the same
nature, such as Tai Chi. These soft forms of martial arts improve the body and
at the same time nurture the soul.
