Nowadays, eastern approaches to health have become quite popular. One of these 
approaches is the practice of mindfulness meditation. Simply put, it is an 
exercise of focusing the mind on only the present moment. It is claimed by 
various meditation exercises that these can produce changes significantly for 
better living in daily life.

Meditation in itself can potentially cause a decrease of anxiety. It can also 
influence a person's emotions. It may exert a positive influence by encouraging 
more positively inclined feelings such as of joy and happiness. Sufficient 
training in mindfulness meditation is necessary, however, to produce positive 
effects on your brain and immune function.

So how do you apply mindfulness meditation?

First, you have to look for a private and quiet place. But of course, you need 
to know how to sit or recline comfortably. Focus on the present moment. Try to 
call your mind back to the present moment if it wanders to thoughts about the 
past or the future. Pay attention to your breathing. Notice your inhalation and 
exhalation. Feel the sensation as you breathe in and out. Now, notice what 
thoughts come to your mind. Do not try to evaluate any thought. Simply and 
gently acknowledge the presence of each thought. Be calm. Your breathing is the 
key to your focus.

If it ever happens that your mind starts to wander, do not force yourself back 
to meditation. Simply and gently tell yourself to calmly return to your point 
of meditation. If you already are finishing your meditation, simply remain 
seated or reclined for a minute or two before gently getting up.

Many benefits are claimed to be produced by mindfulness meditation. Research 
confirms that mindfulness meditation increases brain and immune functions for 
the better. This implies that the mind has certain effects on the body. Note 
that the brain is essential for learning and the immune system is vital as the 
defense "network" of the person's body. This means that learning the practice 
of mindfulness meditation and using it for daily activities can increase well 
being for the body and including one's mental health. The meditation also may 
be said to be effective on one's spiritual aspect. The focus on the present 
moment can spiritually beneficial because it allows the person to be more aware 
of what needs to be done in the situation. Worries can be more easily set 
aside. But of course, these kinds of effects can manifest only after many 
exercises of meditation practice.
