Having tile in your home whether it is in the bathroom or kitchen can be great if it still looks new, but if it is cracking and loose it does not look fresh and new any more. This is when you may want to consider replacing the tile or covering it with some other material. One place in the home where you want it to look nice and be presentable for guest is the bathroom and this is the place where it seems to get worn the quickest due to the constant moisture in the bathroom. Here are a few ways to cover up that old boring tile in the bathroom. Type of other Coverage Tile in the bathroom can be covered with plywood, backer board, wainscoting, paint, marble, etc. There are so many different ways to cover existing tile. It can be removed to allow for brand new coverage of different flooring, or tiles can be covered over with other things. How to Cover Old Tiles The basic procedure for covering old tiles is to start with the research, what type do you want or what type of covering do you need. Do you want to paint or stick self adhesive ones over the old ones, do you want to fix the old tiles, or do you want to remove the old ones and start from scratch. Check the budget and ask questions from professionals in home improvement stores to get the specifics on how to do it yourself. Once you have narrowed down your options clean the tiles you currently have and cover the tile with a latex reinforced mortar and place new ones on top. Alternatively, you can choose to use marble to be placed on top instead of the new tiling. If you want to replace the tiling then you may need to turn off all water supplies and remove the sink or furniture, clean the area and remove the old grout and tiles clean area again and put down the mortar and place the tiles. You always start placing tiles from the center out, measure and cut precisely to adjust for edges and corners. In some cases you can put plywood over the existing tile and place the new on top of the plywood. When starting this process it is best to remove broken tile and seal loose ones before beginning any project. There are kits available for beginners and many trained professionals at home improvement centers can assist with any home improvement project.
