This morning at Gateway Park in Cedar Falls I observed a single Cackling
Goose feeding with a group Canada Geese. About the size of a Mallard,
blocky square head, short bill and neck. I did not notice a white ring at
the base of the neck. Checking the early dates for Cackling Geese it looks
like it a good bit earlier than previously reported (Sept 21, 26, 28,
2006). My only concern is that the write up on the IOU website for
Cackling Geese says they normally appear in groups. This was a single
bird.
