MATT (and anyone else interested): The following link goes to a PDF of the 2006 National Survey of Hunting, Fishing & Wildlife-Associated Recreation summary of data for Iowa: http://www.census.gov/prod/2008pubs/fhw06-ia.pdf. This nationwide survey is conducted only every 5 years, so 2006 data is the most recent available. There's also a new publication that breaks out even more wildlife-watching specific data from the 2006 survey. DNR has a few hard copies, but I'm having trouble finding an online version right now.
