We did have a Rusty Blackbird today feeding with the Juncos and
English Sparrows. Two days ago we had a fair flock of red-winged
blackbirds, but they seem to have gone south with the north wind.

Is anyone else seeing Rusty or Brewer's Blackbirds? We had three
today,
one yesterday, at our feeder in rural south Iowa City--a new feeder
bird
for us. Alas, we're not in the Christmas Count circle.
All three are birds a little smaller than a Robin, with yellow eyes
and a
glossy dark purple head and breast, with very dark greenish back,
wings,
and tail (no mottling). They feed on the ground and on the flat part
of
the feeder. They make a "chick" as they fly over. As yet, I haven't
been
able to take photos that reveal the colors.
