Greetings,
The sun actually came up in Algona this morning! Don't snicker- we
haven't seen proof of that event around here in quite some time. And as
for all the birds you folks have posted as flying north the past couple
of weeks, we haven't been able to see them through the fog either.
I spent from 11:30 to 12:30 and 2:30 to 4:00 watching the skies today in
Riverview Cemetery, Algona, while raptors enjoyed honest-to-gosh
thermals, leasurely working north into a light breeze. Totals:
78 Bald Eagles
8 Redtails
single Cooper's Hawk
no vultures
single Red-breasted Nuthatch
single Purple Finch
single large flock of distant Snow Geese- the only flying geese I saw
The East Fork of the Des Moines has remained steady for 48 hours below
the '93 level, but higher than '08. There's still snow on the ground.
