Greetings all,

I thought perhaps the day before a cold front with strong south winds would
concentrate some hawks along the Loess Hills ridgeline.

Turkey Vulture-11

Northern Harrier-2

Sharp-shinned Hawk-3

Cooper's Hawk-5

Redtailed Hawk-117 (one harlan's)

American Kestrel-2

Unidentifed raptors-4

Total-144

Start time 2:30 pm-end time 5:30 pm

The first hour, I didn't figure out where they were. Sky was partly sunny.
Saw only 24.

Second hour, started clouding up. Found them high over head. Mostly just
specks with binoculars. Saw-58

Final hour, totally overcast. Much easier to see and late in the hour,
started coming lower. Largest group-13. About 6 groups of 4-6.Total for the
hour-62.

They were still flying when I left.

 

Also seen 3 flocks of Killdeer totaling 44
