Today, my field technician Jonathan Lautenbach and I birded areas in Jones
County. We totaled 99 species (though try as we might for number 100).
Highlights included:

Wapsipinicon State Park:

18 species of warblers including Worm-eating, Yellow-throated, Orange-crowned,
Blackburnian, and an FOY American Redstart.

Singing White-eyed Vireo

Pileated Woodpecker

FOY Swainson's Thrush and Wood Thrush

Muskrat Slough:

Virginia Rails and Soras

Olive-sided Flycatcher

Sandhill Cranes

Great-tailed Grackle pair

To our surprise, we were able to tally 99 species with only 4 species of
shorebirds and 4 species of waterfowl.

Good birding,
