Enjoyed a day of birding in Sac County. It started about 5 am., and ended around 4 this afternoon. There were several holes in my list but I still managed a respectable 126 species. Highlights included a Bald Eagle on a nest and a late White-fronted Goose south of Lake View and a Red-breasted Nuthatch in Lake View. For the day there were 8 species of duck, 17 species of shorebirds, and 19 species of warblers.
The best shorebirds were 50 + American Golden Plovers, 2 Willets, 2 Hudsonian Godwits, and 4 Wilson's Phalaropes. Two new county birds included 2 singing Cerulean Warblers and Louisiana Waterthrush. The Cerulean Warblers, Black-throated Green and Blackburnian Warblers were seen at the Macdonald's Greenbelt north of Sac City along the Raccoon River.
