We spent Mon and Tue at UNI for orientation, and I encountered a couple of nesting Cooper's Hawks. Mon evening at the motel on University, one flew over our parking lot carrying prey and leading a squadron of angry starlings. Heading for home on Tues, one flew over Hwy 20 near Hudson leading a pack of grackles. This species appears to have staged a Bald Eagle-like population recovery in recent times.
