Paul Roisen and I met up early this morning (we left my house at about 4am) to do the Washta BBS Route which runs from just NW of Washta in Cherokee County to a few miles SE of Correctionville in Woodbury County. Along this route we found quite a few Blue Grosbeaks, especially to the northwest of Washta and to the south of Correctionville, with some seen in between. A couple of Sedge Wrens were heard at a stop at the intersection of C60 and Washta Road in Cherokee County.
After doing the BBS route, we headed off to the Wright Creek (255) BBA Block in Woodbury County. While there we confirmed 12 species. Along Story Avenue on the west side of the block we found an Upland Sandpiper and a Black-billed Cuckoo, as well as a Blue Grosbeak. The Black-billed Cuckoo was seen in the trees along the creek in the vicinity of the intersection of Story Avenue and 190th street. Good Birding, Tucker J.
