Hi all:

I think there is an obvious notch in rectrix 5 (uppermost in the spread-tail 
shots) that shows well in the 2nd and 3rd spread-tail photos. This makes it a 
Rufous, according to Pyle.  Because the notch can actually be seen in these 
pics (I understand it's not always very easy to see), I'd hazard a guess that 
the bird is a male.

Subject: [ia-bird] Selasphorus hummingbird


Jim Sinclair and I saw the Selasphorus hummingbird at the Armstrongs' this 
morning, leaving just after the Allens had arrived.  I got a few shots of the 
bird with its tail fanned for anyone who wants to try to work out 
age/sex/species.  Sibley won't help on this one--it's going to take a Pyle I 
think.
