This coming Saturday night at 7 PM will be a unique opportunity for birders in
Iowa to get a glimpse of what birding could be like if you visited Botswana in
southern Africa. Harold Hester, who is chairman of the Botswana Bird Club and
a promoter of birding tourism in his part of the world will be giving a program
on African birds at the Lost Island Nature Center in Palo Alto county.

Harold and his wife, Geraldine will be visiting some friends in the Spencer
area for a few days and he has arranged to give this program. He would be a
great contact for anyone interested in visiting southern Africa and finding
birds while there.

On Friday the Hesters and host Anthony Vodraska will join me for my annual
birthday birding adventure. I would like to find them about 100 new lifers in
North America but we will see if the hot and windy conditions hold off until
later in the day. I apologize for getting this notice out so late but my
computer blew up last weekend and I have been incommunicato until today.

I hope this program will be of interest to some birders on the listserve and
that you can join us for this event. I know I am looking forward to a virtual
Africa bird tour and to confirming that I correctly identified the birds from
South Africa that my boss's wife took pictures of when she was there.

May the birds be with us!!
