Hi I-Birders,
Yesterday (10/3) we had a late-seeming hummingbird at our feeder. On our
dog walks along the Des Moines River this past weekend we saw a couple of
EASTERN PHOEBES, some NASHVILLE and many YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, TUFTED
TITMOUSE, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET and my first fall DARK-EYED JUNCOS, and several
species of sparrows, mostly WHITE-THROATED. In the yard were TUFTED TITMOUSE,
numerous NASHVILLE WARBLERS, WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS both kinglets, several
HERMIT THRUSHES, and our regular group of WILD TURKEYS. We have seen this same
flock of turkeys for months now- it's two hens and twelve poults. We've
watched the poults grow from rather small to the size where they aren't so easy
to tell from the hens. The local coyotes must be finding something else to
eat, because the attrition rate I expected has not come to pass.
Good Birding,
