Last week the US Fish & Wildlife Service indicated that it would be
reviewing the endangered species status of the wood stork. This seems
premature even though the wood stork has expanded its range. It also
motivated us to pull up several wood stork images and prepare a blog entry.
It may not be a pretty bird but it certainly is eye-catching and important.
It seems another issue of habitat protection pressures.

Yesterday afternoon we heard and saw three immature Red-tailed Hawks
circling over Daniels Park here in Cedar Rapids. They seemed to be trying to
ride a thermal that did not go very high so went round and round up and down
in a short column of air.
