This morning I led a field trip for the IOU meeting at Neal Smith NWR. We found at least 13 species of sparrows, most in one magical brush pile on the south end of the refuge. Sparrows included the following: LeConte's (at least 4 of them, all of which were extremely wanted to get as close as possible to us) Harris' Vesper(in the field we walked for longspurs without success) White-throated White-crowned Fox Song Lincoln's American Tree Savanna Swamp Field (one seen along Tallgrass Trail) Clay-colored (near burn on west edge of refuge)
We got plenty of exercise and enjoyed the day. --- Please contribute your sightings to our list; it is only as good as members make it! --- Birding channel recommendation for FRS/GMRS radio use: Primary selection; channel 5/0 , alternate selection; channel 6/0 --- This mailing list is sponsored by the Iowa Ornithologists' Union.
