The Allen's Hummingbird was present at Aaron's feeder for about 30 seconds at about 9:50 this morning. I watched from about 9:30 to 10:00.
Yesterday afternoon I saw a light phase juvenile Rough-legged Hawk on the Des Moines Airport perimeter fence, along new Army Post Road just a short distance east of the Highway 28 intersection. Yesterday's overwhelming approval of the Iowa Land and Legacy Amendment was very gratifying. The IOU and its leadership is to be congratulated for their excellent support, both financial and promotional, of this amendment. It is a critical step toward creating clean waters and some decent habitat for wildlife in Iowa. The next phase, legislative approval of a sales tax increase, will require a lot more work, but given the overwhelming public support of this conservation effort in Iowa we can be cautiously optimistic that that will occur, hopefully sooner rather than later.
