Nice little walk by the lake today. The Red-tailed Hawks that nested in the pines next to the swings last year seem to be hanging around the area this year. Saw a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker searching out the oaks and Robins making popcorn out of the leaves as a flock of 12 flipped the leaves to see what winter left underneath. Saw a Red-breasted Nuthatch in the neighbors yard, first for the neighborhood for me. A herd of 7 deer, two bucks and five does, walked out of the woods on the SE of the lake to check me out. First a doe came timidly out and then another doe and eventually the bucks, two little six-pointers who looked like they could be twins. I had the feeling the whole herd had maybe been hand fed when they were fawns somehow. They came up to within 25 feet of me, very inquisitive, very tame, esp for bucks. I held out my hand like I had something for them buy they were not fooled. Heard a Bobwhite on the other side of B St from the lake. Tim Fairfield
