Folks, How common are beaver in this area? I ask because I saw one swimming along the Iowa River near Hancher on the UI campus this morning. I've seen muskrats on the river before (and in other nearby wetlands), but this was definitely a beaver - it swam toward the foot bridge on which I was standing. It was much, much, much larger than a muskrat, and it dove just as it got to the bridge, exposing its flat tail.
