Around Lock & Dam 16, Illinois side unless otherwise noted: Canada Geese - 70 Snow Geese - approx. 20 on Iowa side, above the dam Trumpeter Swan - 1 Mallard - 44 total Common Goldeneye - 3 male, 4 female Lesser Scaup - 45 Wood Duck - 2 female, 2 male Common Merganser - 3 female, 3 male Killdeer - 4 Herring Gull - 1 unid. gulls - Iowa side, near the snow geese Amer. Kestrel male - 1 Bald Eagles - 6 adult, 3 immature (at least one of which was juvenile) Mourning Dove - 2 Barred Owl - 2 by "who-cooks..." Amer. Tree Sparrow - 5 Dark-Eyed Junco - 2 Common Grackle - 1 male, defending territory Red-Winged Blackbird - 4 males Brown-Headed Cowbird - approx. 10 Eastern Meadowlark (by song) Western Meadowlark (by song) Other common all-year birds also seen or heard.
