Peering through frosty-covered windows, the brilliant black eyes of a black and
white bird in a bleak landscape honed in upon a suet ball I had moments before
prepared---a muddled hodgepodge of simple grains and peanut butter (partially
hydrogenated) in an old, unused onion bag. The Downy Woodpecker, just inches
away, inched towards victory, triumphant in the winter-scape, vertical and
easily perched upon a 2X4. Rejoiced was I to see beauty in the adversity of a
seeming sea of nothingness/winter, brilliant and vibrant....
