Greetings all,

Last night I setup the saw-whet owl banding station at Hitchcock Nature
Center north of Council Bluffs and recaptured a female that was banded by us
Nov 1, 2010. She was fat! Up 12g from last capture.

She was the only owl heard or captured in a 4 hour effort. Perhaps she
over-wintered in the area?

I am trying to determine the timing of spring migration in Iowa for these
guys. Does anyone have information on spring sightings in March and April of
NSWO in Iowa? The IOU early/late dates suggest that most are gone by the
second week in April. I would like to compile dates to get a feel for the
peak period so I know when to set up the station. Please respond to me off
list and I will post what I find out to the Ia-Birds. Thanks.
