Yesterday I was right along the Iowa-Nebraska border (although technically on
the Nebraska side).  I heard and then saw an Eastern Phoebe calling from the
tree tops about 2 miles west of the Missouri River just west of Onawa, Iowa.  I
don't know if this is early or not, but I don't recall hearing any reports of
one yet this Spring.
We also saw  a red-tailed hawk building a nest on the cross arm of an electric
pole right on I-80 a few miles west of Walnut, Iowa.
