That is one monster flight for spring at HNC-- really warm and muggy here
yesterday-- felt like July. The summer-like weather must have got'em moving.

=============
About mid-morning today Jer Toll called me and said he saw a number of raptors
migrating north over Hitchcock Nature Center north of Council Bluffs, Iowa and
that he had a project he was involved in and wouldn't be able to spend much
time observing them. So I headed up to Hitchcock Hawkwatch and started
counting at about 11:00am. In addition to what Jer observed here is what my
tally was by 4:00pm:

- 454 Red-tailed Hawks
- 14 Sharp-shinned Hawks
- 7 Cooper's Hawks
- 8 Northern Harriers
- 5 Bald Eagles
- 2 Golden Eagles
- 12 Broadwing Hawks (a bit on the early side)
- 1 A. Kestrel
- 32 Turkey Vultures

Total of 535

Also there were approximately 2000 Snow and Ross's Geese that flew over and 12
DC Cormorants.

By the time I left at 4:00pm the severe weather was starting to show up. Turns
out a tornado was sighted just north of the Hawkwatch near Missouri Valley,
Iowa not long after I left.
