I spent a little time at Riverton in SW Iowa this morning to see if I might find the Brant Geese that were reported there yesterday. No luck. Almost like finding a needle in a haystack when you can only see part of the haystack. Large flock of Snow Geese there and White-fronted as well. They are in a location where you can't get a good view of the flocks. Thousands of ducks - mostly dabblers there also. Found a small flock of Rusty Blackbirds (15) on the north end of the refuge along with 2 Fox Sparrows and a GH Owl. This was the second time I have looked for Brants that had been sighted this year and failed both times. Maybe next time. Clem Klaphake Bellevue, NE
