Birders

Recently Chris Caster pointed out that a banded 60 year-old Laysay Albatross
had been found nesting on Midway Atoll in the Pacific Ocean, the oldest wild
bird known to have nested. Just to add a little Iowa spin to the story, the
bird and its nest were located by John Klavitter, a native of Dubuque who is
now a wildlife biologist for the USFWS and deputy manager of the Midway Atoll
NWR where he has been for several years. John did his undergraduate work at
Iowa State University where he studied in the wildlife biology program.
