| The Iowa City Bird Club's beginning birders trip Saturday was to the South Side of Hawkeye, during the snow and wind. We saw a scattering of ducks, mostly Blue-winged Teal and Shovelers. Divers were conspicuously absent. Water levels were low with a good deal of exposed, mostly dried mud. Very few shorebirds. One sighting of note was a flock of 50+ Horned Larks or Longspurs or ??. They flew back and forth along a field E of the Babcock
Access Road, and N of the Swan Lake Road. They circled and
bobbed and we never saw them land.
Even the one time that some flew overhead, we were unable to identify
them. Good Birding, Rick Hollis North Liberty |
