The Iowa City Bird Club's beginning birders trip Saturday was to the South Side of Hawkeye, during the snow and wind.  We saw a scattering of ducks, mostly Blue-winged Teal and Shovelers.  Divers were conspicuously absent.  Water levels were low with a good deal of exposed, mostly dried mud.  Very few shorebirds.

One sighting of note was a flock of 50+ Horned Larks or Longspurs or ??.  They flew back and forth along a field E of the Babcock Access Road, and N of the Swan Lake Road.  They circled and bobbed and we never saw them land.  Even the one time that some flew overhead, we were unable to identify them.
