Stopped and did a quick lap around the lake paths at McFarland Park on the way to work this morning. Great numbers of Palm Warblers pretty much the entire route I took but higher concentrations in certain areas, like the SE corner of the lake where alot of shrubbery had been cleared. I didnt like the clearing a month ago when I first saw it, but the birds seem to be adapting to it nicely..so I guess I'll quit being mad..lol! Saw close to 100 White-throated Sparrows along that same side of the lake. Had a nice flock of 50-60 Blue Jays fly low over the tree tops, I've seen large flocks of Blue Jays in the fall but that my first for spring time.
Birds seen on my trip are as follows: Palm Warblers 20+ Yellow-rumped Warblers 10+ Nashville Warbler Yellow Warbler(female) Common Yellowthroat (female) Northern Waterthrush Orange-crowned Warbler RC Kinglet Purple Finch(female) Lincolns Sparrow - 2 Song Sparrow Field Sparrow Chipping Sparrow White-throated Sparrow 100+ House Wren - 3 Brown Thrasher - 3 Tree Swallows Barn Swallows Eastern Bluebird(pair) Mallard(pair) For my yard in Roland, I had my FOY White-crowned Sparrow yesterday. The Red-headed Woodpecker was seen most of yesterday, didnt have a chance to see him this morning before I left the house. RT Hummingbird male did stop at the feeder this morning while I let the dog out. Thats all for now!
