James Huntington said, "If it is bad weather during spring or fall migration, put on the rain gear. Get out there."

Okay, I did. Yesterday, I put on the rain gear and joined living legend, Mark Proescholdt, in birding little-known and neglected Chickasaw County. It was cold and wet, and everywhere we went the wind followed us. At one point, we spent an hour sitting in the truck near a small wetland, waiting out heavy rain until we could walk the edge.

On the day, waterfowl, hawks and shorebirds were nowhere to be found, but many passerines were grounded by the wind and rain. We managed 21 species of warblers in ratios very similar to Aaron Brees' report. Sixteen of them were new for Mark's Chickasaw County list. It was also a good day for Swainson's Thrushes with maybe 60 on the day. Other interesting finds were 10-15 Lark Sparrows, a vocalizing Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, an early Sharp-tailed Sparrow, and several Eurasian Collared-Doves in the downtown part of Nashua.
