There are Dickcissels nesting on vacant land seeded to alfalfa along
Southgate Avenue east of Gilbert (a big caterpillar is parked along
the edge of the land). They were there last summer too, but
heartbreakingly got mowed down when the alfalfa was taken off. To
avert a replay of last summer's disaster, I have approached the
landowner with the idea of paying him what he would get for the
alfalfa if he leaves it unmowed. Can someone tell me how long the
Dickcissels will stay if they're allowed to finish their nesting
cycle? Thanks.
