Thanks to all who pointed me to Giant Ichneumon Wasp, Megarhyssa atrata.And thanks to the Padelfords who led me to this page with information about this interesting critter.
When I first saw it, I did not have my camera and tried to remember everything I saw. I marked its location with leaf, took the dog home, got the camera and hurried out and got the photo.
