Folks, here is the slide show for the Brookings SDOU meetings. Some of the
photos are not that great, but are just to show species seen. Photos are from
Roger Dietrich and Mick Zerr.
There are two silhouette photos, one is of a bird in flight, and the other of
one sitting on a branch. See how good you are at silhouettes. I am sure most of
you will get them right away. Let me know your guess. I will post the answers
later.
Some of the photos are of species seen on the way back from Oakwood
Lakes/Brookings. Our best was the Buff Breasted Sandpiper at Lake Thompson.
Add my thanks to K.C.and all who made the adventure a success.

Today I took a run out to SF's newest park "Family fishing Park". to look for
the loons, scoters, etc. seen last year, plus diving ducks, etc. Nothing on the
water except Mallards and Canada Geese, but other birds included:
Many sparrows, most diving and hiding in the prairie grass area on the far east
end of the park and in the reeds. Species that stood still long enough to ID
were:
Harris', Savannah, Song, Swamp, Chipping and Clay-colored Sparrows. Killdeer,
Ring-billed and Franklin's Gulls, W. Meadowlark, Kestrel, Robin, Mourning Dove,
and DE Junco. Other creatures seen were many Bullfrogs, Mink, Cottontail,
Monarch, Orange Sulphur, (butterflies), and Painted Turtle.
The park is not busy during the week, but weekends it is busy. See map at
http://flic.kr/p/av7Q3j Numbers indicate sparrow locations.
