A city crew was burning a small prairie area by Gray's Lake. Good to see
habitat maintenance going on, and the weather is great for it.

A pair of peregrines was hunting over the MLK Jr bridge in Des Moines
about 11 am, then moved north over the Des Moines River. Each flock of
pigeons at the bridges took flight in succession.

Numerous small birds were present in Water Works park. Someone reported
about 50 bluebirds on Sunday. I saw about eight today, along with
goldfinches, juncos, numerous house finches, a red-bellied woodpecker, and
several yellow-rumped warblers. Loose, small flocks of grackles flew over.
A downy woodpecker sounded off.
