I checked a number of lakes in Adair and Union counties today and found small
amounts of open water at most of them. I came up with 15 species of waterfowl
including Snow Goose, Wood Duck, and Greater Scaup. The only unexpected bird
was a juv. Glaucous Gull hanging out with a small group of waterfowl on Three
Mile Lake.
A very quick scan from the Saylorville dam this afternoon produced both loons,
with the Common now in the open water and the Red-throated still sitting in its
now slightly larger hole.
