Birders,

Following up a call I received, I tracked down an injured snowy owl this
morning. I met up with Kay Neuman from SOAR and she could tell the bird (young
male) had been eating (by feeling its crop, keel, and breast muscles) and that
its left wing injury had occured some time ago, as it had now healed over. It
could not fly, so I am impressed that it was sustaining itself for this long.
It was alert and bill clapping, so that is a good sign. Its left eye did not
seem to be responding the same as its right, so I suspect there is some head
trauma as well.

We picked it up in a field near the intsersection of 250th and Union. I am
wondering if this is the same bird that I had heard a few reports about a few
weeks ago. It would be due east of the previous sightings by about 6 miles.

I will try and keep you posted on its status in the days/weeks to come.

Bird on...
